What is TL shipping?

Truckload (TL) freight shipping is the transportation of bulky homogeneous cargo. In general, it's the amount needed to fill an entire semi-trailer or intermodal container. A truckload carrier usually contracts an entire trailer-load to one customer as opposed to less-than truckload (LTL), which commonly mixes freight from several customers in every trailer.

Shipments greater than 7000 kilograms are classified as truckload because it is more convenient and cost-effective to have an exclusive trailer compared to sharing space on smaller LTL trailer.

What is LTL shipping?

LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) shipping handles freight shipments ranging from 100 lbs to 20,000 lbs. If you have an item to ship that is too large to take to the post office or local parcel company, freight is a more economical approach. How far in advance do I need to schedule a pickup?
